I’d argue that those first PXG irons set the standard for what has become the player’s distance category. Whether they were any better than what existed previously will always be up for debate but there was no arguing that Parsons and his team were pushing the limits of how much technology (and screws) you could pack into a golf club.

The combo of the thin face, XCore 2, and power channel equals insane distance. You'll definitely see an uptick in carry, especially on center hits. Mishits, these irons keep you in the game. Offcenter strikes still produce playable results with minimal distance drop, high launch with stable spin rates. You get stopping power on the greens without ballooning.

Their 0311 P GEN8 iron is marked by a blend of distance, forgiveness, feel and control, including a high launch and a soft, responsive feel at impact. More than that, though, the iron is unusual in the industry in that it has adjustable perimeter weights for modifying ball flight — a feature historically reserved for woods.

PXG have produced an outstanding series of irons with the GEN8 models, that are long as well as being impressively forgiving. The peak of this comes in the XP head - it's designed as the iron head that will most help golfers that put in play, with optimized, lower CG producing high launch and low spin.

I found in testing that they're almost too forgiving! What I mean by that is s that it is actually quite difficult to fathom out where on the face you have struck your shot so from a feedback point of view, frankly, there isn’t much to help your development.
