The Nothing Ear keeps things simpler but more effective. Their three-mic system, combined with AI noise reduction, delivered cleaner calls overall. In my testing, background noise—especially wind and street sounds—was much less noticeable compared to the Ear (3). While voices were a bit muffled, intelligibility was consistently strong.

Overall, I prefer the Nothing Ear over the Ear(2) because it has better noise cancelling and sound while also being more customisable. The main reason not to upgrade is the transparency, which the Ear(2) better at, but the Ear is a better product in general.

The main superpower of the Nothing Ear 3 is super mic, which is a microphone built into the charging case. So, if you're taking calls in very noisy situations, you can pull the case out and speak into this microphone directly close to your mouth instead of relying purely on the earbuds microphones in your ears. Now, I think it's a great idea.

Nothing jokes have started, but I'm scoring them a 10 out of 10 here. This comfort is on par with the Shokz OpenFit. They also have a very lightweight ergonomic design and I do have the Bose Ultra open up there as well. They do have that hook on design, so a little bit different, but they're also a kind of fit where it feels like you're not wearing anything.

But, they just have some pretty annoying bugs that I didn't really expect from Nothing, which I think can be fixed. Both pairs are equally comfortable for longer listening sessions, and they use the same stem design with pinch controls. That said, the Ear 3 buds are slightly heavier at 5.2 g each compared to the 4.6 g for the 2024 Nothing Ear. Honestly, they feel a lot like wearing a slightly bigger AirPods Pro 3.

It just feels a bit more slippery to open, which is a bit of a shame. But that's okay. It's still keeping in line with the rest of the Nothing design in general. I You have a button inside there for pairing and also this light, which looks like a glyph light sort of design.

The case though, I'll be honest, it's light, almost a little too light, but and that transparent finish is a fingerprint and micro scratch magnet over time. I experienced that with some of the previous versions. So you're you're still going to want to be a little bit careful with it.

Well, to be honest, I feel like you're paying a lot for the design. And unlike the CMF Butts Pro 2 that sports a unique and fun to use smart dial, this only gives you the nothing transparent look and better balanced sound because the other aspects are okay at best.

Disappointing because otherwise they were pretty great.

However, I do feel that when the mids and the bass are playing at the same time, it tends to get drowned out by the bass. Like, for example, the live performance of HadesTown. All the audience clapping, it's super crisp and clear. And it's really highlighted by that little bump in the treble.

Overall, first impressions are really positive. Comfort is another area where Nothing has done a great job. But, before we go into that, let's talk about the design. The pair I've got here is a yellow version, and I think it looks fantastic. Like all of Nothing's products, you've got the signature transparent shell, giving a glimpse of the internal components.

It reduces wind noise well, but it is not perfect as the voice is occasionally cut off. Since a microphone that cannot properly capture the voice cannot be called a microphone, it feels like it has improved but taken two steps back. Considering the effort Nothing put into these additional features, the recording quality of the super mic was much worse than expected.

I like that there’s more white accents with a hint of black compared to the Nothing Ear, which is much more two tone. Compared to the main Ear, the Ear (a) buds look and feel identical. The only difference is the texture of the shells.
