Flagged as a product to avoid

4 of 5 research runs entered this as a product to avoid rather than a pick.

The older amplified step-up from the Leaf line coasts on the Leaf name while CNET's current testing has crowned the plain Mohu Leaf as its best indoor antenna, making the 50 a worse deal than the model that replaced it.

  1. The older amplified step-up from the Leaf line coasts on the Leaf name while CNET's current testing has crowned the plain Mohu Leaf as its best indoor antenna, making the 50 a worse deal than the model that replaced it.

  2. Coasting on the Leaf name: the outlets that actually test found the plain Mohu Leaf better (CNET) and the Mohu Gateway Plus clearly superior (ZDNET). Buyers pay an amplified-model premium for an older design the specialists have moved past.

    Flagged 16 September 2026
  3. The classic upsell: the plain Mohu Leaf with an amplifier bolted on and a big range number on the box. Antenna Man questions whether it is worth the premium price, and the broader testing consensus is that the amplifier rarely helps indoors and often adds noise - buy the passive Mohu Leaf instead.

    Flagged 16 September 2026
  4. No current authoritative outlet ranks it at the top: ZDNET's testing found Mohu's own newer Gateway Plus did the best job of anything it tested, Wirecutter's top pick is the Channel Master FLATenna 35, and CNET favors the plain Mohu Leaf. Its lingering visibility comes from stale listicles, and it is outclassed by its own brand's successor.

For the most part, reviews of this antenna are largely positive . It has the same pros and cons as other amplified flat-style TV antennas, but Mohu has an extra trick up its sleeve. The amp has a jolt switch, which is fancy TV antenna talk for a bypass switch. That means if you're getting a station that is over-amplified and looking bad, you can turn the amplifier off and watch that channel. It requires a little more manual control, so make sure you have easy access to the amplifier during setup. It's not unique to Mohu, but it is nice that the Leaf 50 has a jolt switch.

The Mohu Leaf 50 might look unassuming as a flat, indoor multidirectional antenna, but its USB-powered amplifier adds 15dB of signal strength, giving it a range of over 60 miles. Its reversible design (one side is black and the other is white) means you can match it to your decor, too.
