The open-window function works exactly as advertised. With the sash lowered over the U-shaped gap, a mild cross-breeze moves through the room even while the AC runs. It won't replace a full-open window on a cool evening, but on a humid 85°F afternoon it's a pleasant option that no conventional window unit offers.
