Today, we're going to have a look at the D2 Thunderbolt 2 drive from LaCie. Okay, first off, looking at the outside of the packaging. Here, we can see that it states that it is a Thunderbolt 2 drive. This is the 3 TB model. And it sports a 720 RPM hard drive with a transfer rate of 180 MB per second. This also supports USB 3.0, too. Just spinning it round to the side there.

This device is not only built for speed, but for efficiency too. Other hard drives use fans in order to keep the device from overheating. The 6TB LaCie Thunderbolt, however, utilizes its design to keep cool. The new design features larger and more air holes, as well as a solid aluminum casing that provides 60 percent more surface area than flat designs.

On their site, LaCie claims you can transfer 64GB of files to a Thunderbolt 3 device in 5 minutes; our testing found that to be not only true but an under exaggeration. The drive could consistently transfer files to and from the computer at nearly 15GB a minute, so transferring large video files was no problem.
