KSM55/60/70 Article

I attribute the higher noise levels of the older models like the Pro600 (and the related 5 qt. residential and commercial versions) to them having "worm follower gear" Hobart-style transmissions equipped with an "all metal" sacrificial gear in place of the older-style synthetic versions. Those "all-metal" models were not infrequently described as having the “sound of a jet taking off” when the speed was ramped up. In contrast, the present Commercial and KSM55/60/70 models with their “dual planetary, double reduction gearbox” are much less noisy.
