The Pixel Watch 5 (as well as the Pixel Watch 3 and 4) will also be able to track longer-term blood pressure and insulin resistance trends that could signal an elevated risk for conditions like hypertension or diabetes. The goal is to surface potential warning signs while there’s still time to turn back the clock and use it as a conversation starter with your doctor. Neither is intended as a diagnostic tool. At the time of publishing, neither had received FDA clearance. Google says they’re coming later this fall.

The Pixel Watch 5, like its predecessors, remains one of my favorite watch designs. It came as a highly anticipated product when it launched with people hoping that it would deliver a combination of a sleek, uninterrupted dome, and Google's heightened attention with software updates and features. Indeed, it did. Google also owns the fitness wearables brand Fitbit (acquired in 2021) and it's utilizing those resources effectively by continuing to focus on health — as are all smartwatches, let's be honest.

And after spending some time with the watch, it's almost definitely going to be the best smartwatch for Android users this year. Google added a ton of new features, useful gestures, improved key health and fitness aspects of the watch, and they also managed to fix two of my biggest complaints with modern smartwatches. So, if this sounds like I'm I'm hyping it up a lot, it's because I actually really like what Google's doing here. To me, Google feels like the only brand that is actually putting in a lot of effort and innovating in the smartwatch space these days. Not just claiming to be a little bit faster. Like there's actually cool stuff that's happening here.

I went for the Pixel 5, mostly for 2 reasons. the GW9 is super slow charging. so slow I cant really just take it out and charge it while taking my shower, 2nd reason the google sleep tracker is less of a gimmick compared to GW9, the quantified scientist on google says Pixer watches are Tier 1 sleep trackers and new galaxy ones are "only" Tier 2. I also went for the smaller version of Pixel 5. before I had owned 44 and 46mm GWs and they were unconfy on my damn small masculine wrists.

**The Pixel Watch 5 has a stunning display and slim profile.** I was already a fan of last year’s Pixel Watch 4 revamp, so I was happy to see that Google kept the same design for the Pixel Watch 5. It comes equipped with Google’s signature domed-glass OLED display (with a variable refresh rate of up to 60 Hz), so it’s convenient for reading and scrolling through notifications at a glance. With a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, it’s easy to see in direct sunlight, too.

Key highlights of the Pixel Watch 5: Advanced GPS Correction (0:14-8:49, 37:53-42:27): The standout feature is a new server-side algorithm that uses 3D mapping, ray tracing, and atmospheric data to correct GPS drift caused by buildings and environmental obstacles. The Pixel Watch 5 looks and feels as premium as a smartwatch can, and new and expanded features like the system-side gestures and Gemini Proactive Intelligence make it a great experience. Unfortunately, features missing at launch make it hard to recommend over the Pixel Watch 4, especially given that some of them may arrive on the Pixel Watch 5's predecessor.

And as you will see in my testing, this appears to be working well to a degree that is, because there might still be some bugs in there. Google claims that this system makes route mapping up to two times more accurate in difficult environments compared to the Pixel Watch 4.

This is the olive color, by the way, and I really like it. I'm kind of a sucker for this khaki sort of drab green look, and it it looks really cool in person. Now, when it comes to the price of the Pixel Watch 5, it got a little bit more expensive compared to the Pixel Watch 4. The 41 millimeter version will start at $399. The 45mimeter version will start at $429. Now, on top of that, there's also a new Steph Curry edition Pixel Watch 5 that will start at $579, but it does include a new nylon band that looks very similar to the Fitbit Airs uh Steph Curry band like I have here.

The Pixel Watch 5 looks almost identical to last year's watch, but underneath that familiar glass dome, Google may have made its biggest smartwatch upgrade yet. Because this time, the headline isn't a slightly faster processor. It's a watch that tries to predict what you need, track health changes you can't easily see, and even understand what's happening around your GPS signal. And some of this is genuinely wild. Google is pushing one-handed control much harder. Double pinch can act on proactive suggestions, while raise to talk lets you launch workouts, set timers, or access information with Gemini. More interestingly, core actions can now run with low latency, even offline.

I think it's very exciting because we haven't seen this stuff at all. And then the blood pressure features like specifically the Samsung watch, the Whoop do need calibration. So you have to calibrate it whether it's once a month or at one point with an actual blood pressure cuff. The Aura Ring blood pressure trends are different. You do not need to calibrate. So this feels like it's on par and you are getting trends.

The battery is also expected to get a small bump, although this doesn't exactly sound like the kind of upgrade that's going to make Pixel Watch 4 owners rush out and upgrade. So, if the hardware isn't changing much, what is Google actually betting on? Gemini. That seems to be the entire point of the Pixel Watch 5.

The memory and storage upgrades could actually be more important. The Pixel Watch 5 is reportedly getting 3 GB of RAM, up from 2 GB on the Pixel Watch 4, while internal storage is expected to double from 32 GB to 64 GB. That extra RAM is particularly interesting because several leaks tie it directly to Google's push toward more advanced Gemini features on the wrist. The battery capacity has increased slightly, but honestly, it's nothing to brag about. The real question is what kind of optimizations Google has made under the hood to improve battery life, because on paper, the claimed battery life remains pretty much the same. The display doesn't appear to be getting a major upgrade, either.

T TechAvid TechAvid · 45.1K subscribers · Jul 2026
The good news is that the processor isn't the whole story. Google is reportedly increasing the RAM from 2 GB to 3 GB. That may not sound like much, but more memory should allow the watch to keep more apps running in the background, reduce app reloads, and provide extra headroom for Gemini and future AI-powered features. As Google continues integrating AI more deeply across the Pixel ecosystem, the additional memory could help the Pixel Watch handle more advanced on-device features over time. There's also another possible advantage to keeping the same platform. After several generations of optimization, Google may be able to deliver better efficiency and battery life without needing an entirely new chipset.

Google's Pixel Watch 5 is shaping up to be a pretty interesting smartwatch, but there's already one leaked detail that has me wondering whether Google is doing enough with this year's model. The Pixel Watch 5 is expected to arrive next month, and while we already have a pretty good idea of what the watch will look like thanks to leaked renders, some new information from the Google Play Console is now giving us a look at what's going on underneath. And unfortunately, that's where things get a little interesting. According to the listing, the Pixel Watch 5, which is apparently code named Godric, is using a Qualcomm chipset identified as SW5100.

Based on everything we've seen so far , the Pixel Watch 5 seems more like a refinement than a major upgrade. If you already own a Pixel Watch 4, there may not be enough reasons to upgrade immediately, unless you really want the new colors or the extra RAM. But for someone with an older Pixel Watch or buying their first Wear OS watch, it could be an attractive option thanks to its polished design and the Google ecosystem. Personally, I think the new colors are one of the best parts of this leak
