Giro Eclipse Pro

It is in my opinion one of the most attractive looking aero road helmets, with a distinctive shape, construction and a range of very attractive colorways. Many aero helmets seem to be slim on vents and have an elongated design and extended tail, but the Eclipse Pro is compact in all directions, while maintaining maximal aerodynamic performance.

We tested a size M weighing slightly more than the official 280 g, which is still a good value for an aero helmet. The new Eclipse Pro is Giro’s fastest helmet to date—and the proof is on the podium. In 2025, early prototypes went straight from the lab to the race course, propelling Wout van Aert to his stunning victory on the Champs-Élysées and Pauline Ferrand-Prévot to dominance at the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift.

So we looked at this uh versus our previous eclipse and with everything we did with the collaboration with our professional team uh leveraging Visma Malisa bike and their expertise understanding what was expected of this helmet we were able to deliver a 17% uh drag reduction in CFD simulations.

Early testing and competition with WorldTour athletes and elite domestic racers have confirmed measurable gains in aerodynamic efficiency, thermal regulation, and all-day comfort, positioning the Eclipse Pro as Giro’s fastest aero road helmet to date.

However, I found that the vents on the front do work with sunglasses well if you want to tuck them in. From the top, you can see that the vents have been changed. are those two linear middle vents. And those are actually covered most of the way with a clear plastic cover that you can see there, which is an interesting choice. I'm surprised they did that instead of painting it.

The pros have thus tested it and the helmet has been approved. None other than Wout van Aert , Jonas Vingegaard and the Polish topper Kasia Niewiadoma rode with it to the finish. The other riders of Team Visma Lease-a-Bike also wore the helmet.

It sounds so easy to reduce weight and boost ventilation by simply removing material from the helmet, and yet, no other aero helmet we’ve tried can match the Eclipse Pro in these areas. This speaks to Giro’s iterative approach to helmets.

My verdict is that the Eclipse Pro can work fine as an all-rounder helmet for all of us all year round – except maybe those trying to win Grand Tour mountain stages in a heatwave.

There's still MIPS Spherical included, which provides a reassuring level of impact protection tech, although Giro has avoided a large profile and kept weight relatively low.
