The FiiO M21 is the next step up from FiiO’s entry-level Digital Audio Player (DAP), the JM21, which I reviewed earlier this year . I really like the JM21, and after a couple of software updates, it has turned into an extremely versatile and competent DAP, which makes me wonder in which ways the M21 can outdo it and offer more value.

The FiiO JM21 or the Sony NW-A306? Both get hyped as the best entry-level music players right now. So, I went deep, bud. First things first, both of these genuinely good.

I prefer the DAC in the FiiO and have switched to the JM21, but the smaller size and Bluetooth options will be a better fit for some people. Either one of these sounds decidedly better than any iPod or MP3 player (and, yes, I remember the Wolfson DACs in the early generations of the iPod).
