The best smart telescopes make viewing the night sky super easy and, if you’ve ever wished for a compact telescope you could fit in your backpack without sacrificing skywatching power, the DWARF 3 might be the one for you. But don’t let its small size fool you — it’s packed with AI-powered tracking, dual cameras and fully automated astrophotography features for an effortles

I've been testing its tracking ability, its built-in filters, and I have some incredible photos to share with you. So, what exactly is the Dwarf Mini? You can think of it as a pocket-sized robotic telescope. It's a complete imaging rig in one unit. A camera, a lens, a tracking mount, and a computer. It's all packed into a body that weighs less than 2 lb.

It's a great entry tool for astrophotography. It's easy to setup and get shooting DSO's or the moon and sun. I go out in the backyard just about every weekend weather permitting. You can also do more than astrophotography with it, time lapses, panorama's and object tracking are available during daylight hours. Haven't gotten bored with it at all.

So, I already covered the Dwar 3 smart telescope extensively as one of the most affordable smart telescopes on the market today together with ZWo's Sea Star S30 and S50. You'll find links to my reviews and comparison videos in the description below.

The DWARF Mini is an unbelievably lightweight and compact all-in-one astrophotography system. It features a dual lens refractor design, a built-in dark filter, and 2.1 MP sensor. The DWARF 3 has sightly larger build, a unique reflector style telephoto lens, and a 8.29 MP imaging sensor.

The Dwarf 3 is a 35 mm aperture by 150 mm focal length apochromatic telescope lens which gives you enough magnification to capture larger galaxies, nebula, and star clusters. On the side, it has a neat little wide field lens that shows you a larger view of the sky, and that makes it very easy to find objects like the moon. And then switch over to the telephoto lens for actual imaging.

Buy the Dwarf 3 if you want the best image DwarfLab makes today; you're planning to process in Siril or PixInsight beyond the app; you own a filter wheel–capable rig already and want a scope that speaks the same language; or you want a scope you won't outgrow after two nebula seasons.

What caught my attention and set the Dwarf 3 apart from the Dwarf Mini and other smart telescopes was its ability to shoot during the day. Not only that, but it also has built-in AI to track birds, planes, and humans, as well as an amazing panorama-stitching feature.

Any one of these scopes is well worth consideration, with the Dwarf 3 providing an excellent balance between performance, features, and price. It has a bit more of a learning curve than the Seestars, but it provides more versatility once you've mastered its features.

This means better composition, less wasted sky, more accurate stitching, and way more confidence before you press capture. In real world use, this makes mosaics feel intentional instead of experimental. And if you're shooting wide field compositions, this is a big deal. It feels planned and it feels simple and efficient.

The D3 delivers a massive 4K (8MP) image , offering a significantly wider field of view that captures more of the surrounding sky context. The D-mini is a 1080p (2MP) crop by comparison. The D3 gives you much more “room to move” if you plan to crop or reframe later.

Now, just in case you have been living under a rock and you're not don't don't know what I you're looking at here. Well, this is basically what's called a smart telescope. Um, and well, it's a camera and a telescope in one. And basically, you're getting a 4K camera cuz it shoots in 4K.

But but the Dwarf 3, okay, makes it super super simple and easy for you to get started even as a complete beginner like myself. Now, when you first set up the Dwarf 3, you're going to just obviously you're going to put it on a tripod. Okay. The next thing that you're going to do is you're going to connect to it. And everything is run via an app on your phone, which is very nice.

Now, one downside is that it's a 30 mm optics rather than 35 and that it's a field of view is a little bit more narrow than the Dwarf 3 in terms of the telephoto lens. Now, what does this actually mean? Well, if we scroll down here, it means that we get a slightly tighter field of view in terms of how much of the night sky we see.

Very excited. I've been waiting for this moment for a long time. So, let's get set up. I guess first things we need to do to get this up and running is we need a tripod. So I have my little tripod here with me and we need some way of attaching the dwarf to that. So I'm using an arcus mount that will just go on top of my tripod. Easy enough. Um pretty much it needs power.

The biggest appeal is convenience. Whether you're interested in photographing galaxies, nebulae, the moon, wildlife, or even panoramic landscapes, >> this smart telescope automates much of the process. Simply connect it to the companion app, choose your target, and the telescope automatically locates and tracks while stacking multiple images together to create cleaner and brighter results.

I also like the smart side of the package. The listing highlights built-in processing and 4K auto tracking, and those are exactly the kinds of features that can make a modern telescope feel less intimidating. Auto tracking is especially important because following a subject accurately is one of the biggest barriers for beginners.

So this is the Dwarf Lab mini tripod for the Dwarf 3 smart telescope. So it's a really good quality sturdy tripod in itself. So you can see the branding there, but it's it feels like really good quality. It's not like a flimsy cheap uh tripod that you might pick up for 20 quid. You have the pan tilt base, which is obviously adjustable and tightenable, but that's how you can move it around.

One thing that's a little bit of a bummer — but I totally get why they did it this way — is that the base doesn't rotate 360 degrees. Rather it stops at around 350 degrees. I have to think that it would be possible to make this freely spin, but I'm not an engineer. The base also includes a 1/4-inch thread on the bottom for tripod mounting.

So at first glance, it might seem like the Dwarf 3 has the advantage with resolution and optics, but the Mini has a very important differentiator up its sleeve or its dew shield. And that is its larger pixels, and those play a major role with deep sky targets.

I actually really like the design choice of the Mini. It counteracts some of the challenges that I found with the Dwarf 3, especially when it comes to wind. The Dwarf 3 in comparison is a lot bigger profile. And what I found is that when I'm kind of pointing this north and I'm polar aligned, if it's windy, this really does catch the wind as well.
