“If you want a lot of NVMe storage for not a lot of money (relatively speaking), then currently, the Crucial P3 Plus is what you're looking for. The performance won't be fantastic all the time, but again, this is NVMe, and unless you really stress the drive to the point where it runs out of secondary cache, you'll likely never notice.

So, for around 20 lb more than the P3 for a 500 GB drive, this is definitely worth considering if you have a PCIe Gen 4 motherboard and want to take advantage of the ramp-up in speeds. Then, we have the top of the stack P5 Plus. This is the latest and greatest of the Crucial M.2 SSDs, and it's been designed specifically for intensive workloads, high-quality creative content, and hardcore gaming.

I’ve been seeing a lot of recommendations lately for budget NVMe SSDs, especially ones like the Crucial P3 Plus, because they offer solid speeds on paper for a really attractive price. And honestly, it is one of those upgrades that makes you wonder why you waited so long to swap out an old drive. When you pull it out of the box, it is tiny. Just a standard M.2 form factor that disappears into your motherboard. But don't let the size fool you.

The Crucial does a fair job for older titles. But, without a built in cache, huge games take longer to load. It works well enough. But it is not built for the hardcore crowd.

However, it's worth noting that while sequential speeds are stellar, random readr performance, critical for multitasking, is good, but not class leading. The drive also tends to warm up under heavy loads, so pairing it with a heat sink in a high performance setup is a smart move.
