The ASUS RT-BE96U is our top pick router for gaming, even though it’s not a gaming router. It checks all the right boxes in our book: superfast speeds at long range, 10Gbps wired connectivity, and loads of free features. The TP-Link Archer GE400 is the only other new gaming router on our list, while the others are oldies but still goodies.Read E
The ASUS RT-BE96U hits the sweet spot of Wi-Fi 7 performance and value. It runs tri-band across 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz, with dual 10 Gbps ports plus four Gigabit ports for serious wired headroom. Advanced security and parental controls are included with no subscription, which makes it a favorite for gigabit-and-faster fiber plans.Read T
Best overall pick: The ASUS RT-BE96U BE19000 is the most complete router in the ASUS WiFi 7 lineup. Dual 10G ports, Lifetime Internet Security, MLO, Multi-RU Puncturing, 6GHz tri-band, and AiMesh support make it the strongest single investment for users who want the best ASUS WiFi 7 router and plan to own it for years.Read Q
The Asus RT-BE96U has become a consensus top pick among reviewers for households that want a powerful WiFi 7 router in a single unit rather than a multi-node mesh system. Tom's Guide, Tom's Hardware, and HighSpeedInternet.com all recommend it at or near the top of the standalone router category.Read W
If your budget isn't fixed, then the Asus RT-BE96U is calling. This enormous, tri-band, Wi-Fi 7 router is bristling with eight large antennas and is not easy to mount, so you will need a suitable space for it. It's seriously massive, but performance-wise, this is as good as it gets right now.Read O
Choose the ASUS RT-BE96U if you want WiFi 7 future-proofing. For large homes, go with the ZenWiFi AX XT8 or ZenWiFi BQ16 Pro mesh system. For serious gaming, the ROG Rapture GT-BE98 Pro is the strongest premium option.Read S

Dong Ngo Jan 22, 2025 at 3:11 pm I’d use the BE96U as the primary, Hue. Make sure they all use the latest firmware.Read H

I only had issues with the BE92U router. Once I copied the settings file to a BE96U, everything was rock solid with eight SSIDs and 70+ Wi-Fi devices. Even with MLO in use, it has been solid now for five weeks. While the BE92U units I had were nothing but a PITA, and nowhere near reliable.Read F
Uh, Asus actually has a really great uh AI mesh system that you can use to create your own mesh network throughout the house. Um, I found this to be more effective than the Decos and the Orbeez that are out there from Netgear. Uh first things first, when you get this uh bad boy, you'll see that there is a ton of shrink wrap that comes uh with this device. It has a little security tag.Watch B
Watch for: It is large, it is expensive, and the LAN ports beyond the two 10G jacks are gigabit — so plan which two devices get the fast ports. ASUS’s interface has a learning curve; if you will never open the admin panel, you are paying for controls you will not use.Read T
Now, it's not quite as good a deal as its competition. Still, while it is bulky, it's hard to go wrong here, especially considering its other perks, including the built-in security software and being able to act as a VPN client.Read B

RT-BE96U is not a good product base on the reviews I am reading. RT-BE92U has this CPU 100% throttling issue while RT-BE96U has intermittent connection issue after firmware update. You have to factory reset every time whenever your connection drops, power cycle does not resolve it base on the reviews.Read thread D
Assuming you meant the 3rd RT-BE96U, the answers are no and I can’t. As mentioned, with wireless backhaul, you need hardware units of the same model for things to work as intended.Read S
Before trying the AImesh again. I was running BE96U as main router and AX86U as upstrairs access point, and that was running better than the AImesh.Read
