Current owners of the Ruffwear Front Range Harness , which is our favorite harness for smaller dogs, will appreciate the upgrades made on the Front Range Flex. It's made for daily use and is very similar to the previous model. The brand swapped out the padded and almost life jacket-like body for a flexible knit that moves with your pet every step of the way. This change makes it less bulky on the neck and chest areas and is much easier to clean since it can be spot treated or thrown in the washing machine. These tiny tweaks bring the price up by $5, but it's totally worth it since your dog will be even more comfortable.

The Front Range Harness is a padded everyday dog harness that is easy to put on and comfortable for dogs to wear. A key piece of gear for canines embarking on a life of adventure with their humans, the harness features two leash attachment options: an aluminum V-ring centered on the dog's back for everyday walks, and reinforced front clip webbing at the dog's chest to redirect dogs that pull on leash. The ID pocket keeps dog tags quiet and easily accessible, and the reflective trim and light loop for The Beacon™ boost visibility in low-light conditions.

Budget-friendly alternatives include the Rabbitgoo No Pull ($18-30) and Ruffwear Front Range ($60) for lighter pullers. Key factors include clip placement (front for pullers, back for trained dogs), proper fit using chest girth measurements, and durable construction.

I have used this Ruffwear harness for two years, and I still like it a lot. Ruffwear customer service really shone in this case, so I wanted to share this dog harness because 2) good customer service is very important, and I love a brand that stands by their products and 2) we've used this harness for 2 years and still really enjoy using this outdoor dog harness as both a city harness and as a hiking harness.

Quick Verdict: Based on manufacturer specs and aggregated owner/expert reviews, the Front Range is a durable, comfortable everyday harness with a genuine front-clip option — a reasonable pick for brachycephalic breeds if fitted by chest girth rather than the size chart’s weight suggestion. It’s not built for high-intensity running or dogs prone to escaping a harness; Ruffwear’s own lineup points toward different models for those use cases.

I think for city dogs, the change doesn't matter much, but if your pup goes on hiking, especially on the trails a lot, that patch is helpful in the wild. A minor change of the design is that the nightlight loop position is slightly different, but honestly, I'm indifferent about this change. When I look at the pictures of Front Range Flex online, I thought the fabric would be stretchy, but it's actually not, which was a surprise for me. But overall, the materials goes along well with Monkeykey's movement.

Although I am pleased with the sturdiness and design, I reflect on the fact that a more compact option like the Ruffwear Switchbak may have been more suitable for my dog and our lack of deep backcountry adventures. I delve into additional alternatives such as the pricier Ruffwear Singletrak, which offers hydration bladders, and the more economical OneTigris Dog Pack.
