( See below for a more detailed explanation.) Oscillating toothbrushes might be a bit intense for a beginner electric tooth-brusher; the versatility of the Philips Sonicare 4100 helped cement it as my top pick for all people. Its sonic vibrations are powerful without being aggressive, and the narrower brush head makes it a more comfortable fit for smaller mouths.Read E

Overall, however, I think the Philips Sonicare 4100 is a great option if your main goal (or biggest struggle) is to establish a consistent two-minute, twice-a-day brushing routine. Also worth noting: It comes with a two-year warranty. At time of publication, the Sonicare 4100 does not have the ADA seal.Read E
Just buy it. The 4100 series is an excellent all round electric toothbrush. It strikes the ideal balance between features, functionality, and price. I've bought and tested hundreds of toothbrushes, and trust me when I say, if this was the only toothbrush I could ever use again, I wouldn't complain. It scored five out of five in my hands-on testing.Watch W
We like Philips’ Sonicare 4100 as an alternative if the Quip model goes out of stock or you prefer a sonic brush. It has the same key features at a similar price, but lacks some of the extras. If design is important to you and you're willing to spend more, we like the Quip Ultra as a premium pick.Read E
And when used side by side, I'm not noticing significant differences, but a marginal improvement in the new model. It doesn't use the next generation 2.0 configuration like more premium models in the series 5300, 5500, and so on that were launched in late 2025. Both models have two cleaning modes. The last generation has clean and sensitive, where the new generation has clean and gum health.Watch E
I've given the 4100 Series full marks here. The plaque disclosing tests I conducted during testing confirm that the 4100 does a very good job of cleaning your teeth. I got that deep and invigorating clean feeling after each use. I certainly have no complaints.Read D
So, this is a really great electric toothbrush. I'll tell you my favorite thing about it. I've been using it for about 6 months now, but let's go over some basics here first. So, this is a rechargeable brush. It comes with this little charger you can put on here. And one minor annoyance with this charger is the fact that um you need to supply your own like power supply for it. It plugs into USB.Watch Y Yahoo Style Canada Andrea Karr · reviewer · Jun 2026

This is a public service announcement to let you know that Philips have announced four new electric toothbrush models, the 1100, 2100, 3100, and 4100. Rather confusingly, they already have models that go by these specific numbers. The difference is the new models don't have the name series after the number like the current models do. At least on the Philips website they don't.Watch T
Frequently asked questions
It ranks #2 of 20 on our electric toothbrushes tier list, in A tier. That placement draws on 33 cited sources across 26 outlets.
1 of the 30 sources with a clear view is critical of it: Brutal Reviews. Lacks high-frequency vibration. No app integration. Replacement heads are more expensive than Oral-B's.
On our electric toothbrushes board, Oral-B Pro 1000 ranks #1 (S tier) ahead of Philips Sonicare 4100 at #2 (A tier). Oral-B Pro 1000: The minimalist brush earns the title of best overall by Wirecutter and CNET, praised for its reliable cleaning and ease of use.
Yes. The Philips Sonicare 4100 is ranked second on our electric toothbrushes board, in A tier, and it is Wirecutter's recommended sonic alternative. It sits on an equally mature platform to the Oral-B Pro 1000, with a quieter vibrating feel and a lean feature set. It ranks just below the Oral-B Pro 1000 only because Sonicare heads cost more over the years.
The Philips Sonicare 4100 is for anyone who prefers a sonic vibrating brush over an oscillating one. It is quieter and feels gentler in the mouth, with the same simple, long-lived design philosophy as our top pick. If head cost over several years matters more than the feel, buy the Oral-B Pro 1000, our S tier pick, whose heads are cheaper. If you want more battery and a few modern conveniences on the same Sonicare platform, the Philips Sonicare 7100 is in B tier.
Years. The research found Sonicare handles have an equally deep reliability record to the Oral-B Pro line, and the Philips Sonicare 4100 has a lean feature set, which the verdict describes as exactly what survives long-term ownership. The battery is sealed, so the handle's life ends when the battery does, but that is typically well beyond five years of daily use.
More than Oral-B's classic heads, which is the one con the research recorded and the reason it ranks below the Oral-B Pro 1000. Over a five-year life the head cost adds up to more than the handle itself. Third-party compatible heads exist, but their bristle quality varies.
The Philips Sonicare 4100 takes standard snap-on Sonicare heads, the same fitment used across most of the Sonicare range, so you have a wide choice of head styles. Replace the head about every three months. Many Sonicare heads have blue indicator bristles that fade when it is time.
Yes. A rechargeable electric toothbrush is allowed in carry-on and checked bags. Keep it in your carry-on, since that is the preferred place for lithium batteries, and put the travel cap on so it cannot switch on in transit.
