The Lenovo Legion Go S is also awesome. It's probably the most comfortable PC handheld out there. Ergonomically, it's fantastic. All the buttons feel great. It has one of the best LCD screens that exists on the market. The controllers do not detach, but that's okay. And you can get a version that has full-blown Steam OS on it already. It is essentially the Steam Deck 2 and it's amazing.

But across all variants, the build is stellar. This time around, it's got ergonomic grips, rounded corners, and hall effect sticks with a light ring that uh screams Lenovo Legion. On the face of this device, we have ABXY buttons that are squishy but not clicky. Start select Legion and double box button that are all very clicky. A sunken in D-pad that is squishy and ergonomically feels great.

I'd say this is the best looking handheld I've tested today. It really is stunning in person.

And somewhat surprisingly, it breaks in favor of the newer budget model. For my battery test, I did a 4K video stream test at 50% screen brightness, and the original Go model netted just over 3 hours of battery life, while the newer, cheaper Go S model got about 4 hours of battery life on the same exact test. That's for a couple of reasons.

Like I said before, the size of the screen really makes this a joy to use.

Straight out of the box, I found the ergonomics to be superb, and that hasn't changed in the time I've been using it. I find it to be a relatively lightweight handheld. I mean, you don't really feel the weight of it when gaming. It's distributed evenly. That nebula color as well is gorgeous, but I wish there was a white option with Steam OS installed. All the buttons are holding up really well.

Well, in a nutshell, I'm still impressed today as I was the first time I played on it. It's not flashy looking. It doesn't beg for attention. It just works like a German accountant. Now, look, I'm not one to obsess over battery life, but the battery life on this sucker is not the best, especially if you're like me and you like to play with no compromises.

So, the Lenovo actually has really good ergonomics in my opinion. The hand grips are actually really nice to use. They're really thick and they have a lot more grip in my opinion than the Steam Deck does. However, the thing I do like better about the Steam Deck is its layout of the joysticks.

It is quite simply the best LCD screen on a handheld today. Under the hood, we have the controversial AMD Ryzen Z2 Go chip. On paper, it is weaker than the Z1 Extreme found in the older model. But here is where the operating system saves the day. On Windows, the Z2 Go would struggle under the weight of the background processors and bloatware. In Steam OS, it flies.

This handheld went from being a solid Windows device to feeling like an absolute powerhouse.

Thanks to the bulky, complex shaped grips, the Go S is clearly more ergonomic than its flatter relatives and competitors. The body is obviously plastic. As for how easily it gets dirty, it's still unclear whether the white or dark version will be better. In terms of durability, again, at first glance, everything looks very good. The console is wellb built. Nothing caks or wobbles when squeezed.

I took the Legion Go S with me on a week-long vacation, and honestly, this might be one of the best handhelds I've used for travel.

Bottom line: if you measure performance in isolation, the Legion Go’s chip is faster. If you measure performance per watt, or performance relative to the display it has to drive, the gap narrows substantially, and in some lighter workloads it disappears or reverses.

And personally, I do like the overall design. It's a really comfortable handheld. Round back here, we do have these locking triggers, so we can go for that hair trigger or full linear. The triggers are also hallbased along with the analog sticks up front. We've got an 8 inch 120 Hz VRR display.

I got a Legion Go S and switched over to SteamOS - mostly a great experience but hte trackpad for the Legion Go S isn't working under SteamOS even on the latest client and latest firmware.

I actually think that there are reasons to buy both. So let's talk about it.

If you only remember one thing: the Legion Go S SteamOS is the faster machine, but the Steam Deck OLED is still the more finished one.

This Lenovo Legion GO S doesn't perform as fast as the Z1 Extreme version obviously, but it can be found at pretty deep discounts, and depending on what you want to do with your handheld PC, it may be a decent pickup. It came with a big screen, a faster chip than the Steam Deck, and this version has 32GB of memory.

The ROG Xbox Ally gives you more power, flexibility, and compatibility thanks to Windows. Meanwhile, the Lenovo Legion Go S delivers a smoother, more console-like experience with SteamOS.

The Legion Go S has solid sticks, good buttons, and useful trigger locks, but its small trackpad isn't as practical. Depending on how you play, that might matter or it might not. Around the back, you've got two rear buttons. Not four like the Steam Deck, but they're enough to be useful. The Steam Deck feels like the comfort handheld.
