G Gladiator, Phantom and Crusader Article
The Gladiator series is currently the most expansive and low-cost in Dalstrong line up. The only series that might beat it for price are the Shadow Black series and the Crusaders, which are both still pretty limited in knife options and have vastly different ergonomics. The only other series that comes close to the same broad variety of knives is the Shogun series which which is up a tier in price. This is the tried and true base line option with Dalstrong.

I've used this knife for a couple weeks and it cuts, chops, minces, slices, and dices, better than any other knife I have. Dalstrong has several series of knives, this Crixus is from the Gladiator Series. Crixus was a legendary gladiator and so far this knife is living up to the name.

The fit and finish are surprisingly high, the G10 handles are bombproof, and the steel takes a very keen edge.

This Dalstrong 8 inch gladiator series chef's knife truly lives up to it's Dalstrong reputation! This is a blade that is affordable for any home chef! Not only does it look and feel amazing, it cuts like a dream. Seriously most of my other knives saw through the very fiberous and tough pineapple skin.

Frequently asked questions

It ranks #17 (F tier) on our consolidated chef's knives board, drawn from 7 independent outlets.

None of the 7 sources that state a view is unconvinced or negative. Owner reports consistently flag quality-control inconsistency and sloppy fit and finish between batches. Overweight, blade-heavy balance fatigues the hand over long prep sessions. At its price, the Tojiro DP or Mac MTH-80 is a strictly better long-term own. Built on review velocity and aggressive visuals the product does not support.

Nobody we can recommend. It sits in F tier at rank 17, last on our board. The knife is real and functional and its steel spec reads fine on paper, but owner reports consistently flag quality-control inconsistency and sloppy fit and finish between batches, and its overweight, blade-heavy balance fatigues the hand over long prep sessions. The board research describes it as a marketing-first Amazon brand built on review velocity and aggressive visuals the product does not support. Buy the Victorinox Fibrox Pro 8-Inch Chef's Knife or the Mac Mighty MTH-80 Professional 8-Inch Chef's Knife instead.

The Mac Mighty MTH-80 Professional 8-Inch Chef's Knife, which the board research names directly as a strictly better long-term own at the Dalstrong's price. It has a long pro-kitchen reputation, edge life that beats German knives and none of the batch-to-batch complaints. If you want to spend much less, the Victorinox Fibrox Pro 8-Inch Chef's Knife in S tier is our number one pick and has decades of track record with near-zero horror stories.

Consistency. Owner reports repeatedly flag quality-control inconsistency and sloppy fit and finish from one batch to the next, so two people buying the same knife can get different results. The second problem is balance: it is overweight and blade-heavy, which tires the hand during long prep. Neither is a single dramatic failure. Both are the kind of defect that a deep track record would have caught, and this brand does not have one.

For long prep sessions, yes. The board research lists an overweight, blade-heavy balance that fatigues the hand as one of its main drawbacks. Some cooks like a heavy knife for short jobs, but the weight here comes with a forward balance rather than a neutral one. The Mac Mighty MTH-80 Professional 8-Inch Chef's Knife is the board's pick for a knife you can use all day.

Because the brand is built on review velocity and aggressive visuals, according to the board research, not because the knife outperforms its rivals. A large volume of marketplace reviews measures marketing reach, not decades of survival in real kitchens. Our board ranks on independent expert reviews and owner failure reports, and on that evidence the Dalstrong Gladiator Series 8-Inch Chef's Knife finishes last.
