Expert reviewers love the powerful sound and high levels of build quality that the CD5 delivers. The player is snappy, and the mechanical components are notably smooth in operation and robust. The CD5 does its best to present the most minimal and simple face it can, but on the rear, you'll find a USB port for media files, as well as coaxial, RCA, and optical outputs. It also supports audio file playback on CD-R, which you sort of expect at this price point. The only real issue worth noting is how the simple screen makes it hard to navigate the menus, but if you're just looking to play audio CDs, that's not a big deal.

The CD5 looks smart and is built to a pleasingly high level. And while the player's menus could be more intuitive to access, the display is large enough to read and the player itself is easy to use. If you're looking for a greater level of clarity and refinement than what this excellent CD player offers, then you'll have to spend more than double the money on the likes of the top-notch, award-winning Cyrus CDI. The Arcam CD5 only rises in our estimation and remains a solid buy and great value for any CD fan.

Was uns ein wenig stört, ist die Anzeige auf dem Display, denn es wird immer die Gesamtlaufzeit des Titels angezeigt und beim Abspielen zurückgezählt. Hier hätten wir uns gewünscht, dass wir die Anzeige ändern können, um einfach zu sehen, wie lange der Titel gerade schon läuft. Was wir hingegen richtig gut finden ist die Laufruhe des CD5. Wenn wir sehr dicht vor dem Gerät sind, hört man die CD nur sehr, sehr leise ihre Runden im Gerät drehen. Sind wir ungefähr einen halben Meter entfernt, dann ist vom CD-Laufwerk im stillen Zimmer nichts mehr zu hören.

There also seems little point in regurgitating all that boring technical stuff because, at the end of the day, it matters so little when a CD player and amp such as these gel so well and, when coupled with the rather bargainous Acoustic Energy speakers, sound so amazing for what is actually comparatively little money, that the only important thing becomes the music!
