As of recent Steam Beta Client Update, a solution has been submitted by Valve. For my 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Wireless in 2.4ghz Dinput mode, the controller is now working without any workarounds needed. I have currently tested this 10 times from a cold boot into Steam, connecting the controller and launching the game and now the game is fully responding to my inputs and gyro movement.

Altogether, I quite like the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth controller. It’s a fantastic evolution over the gamepad’s previous iteration, with the additional buttons allowing for more possibilities when setting up macros and different profiles, while the sleek design of each part of the unit shows that careful thought has been put into every aspect of this controller.

I genuinely adore it. Available in black, white, dark purple and lime green, each controller includes a matching USB-C 2.4 GHz dongle and a charging dock that also stores the dongle when it is not in use. As with other 8BitDo charging docks, the company’s logo is subtly etched on the front, serving as a playful yet intentional nod to its fun-loving brand identity.

So, this is the natural choice if you're looking for a Pro Controller on Nintendo Switch because it has so many features that makes it ideal as a Pro Controller, but also has the ability to be like the Switch Pro Controller where you've got these trigger buttons that are actual buttons instead of full-on triggers. You've got switches like this, but everything else has also been upgraded.

Build quality and construction is stellar. It's very solid and nothing feels loose or janky. It's got the same organic rounded shape that just wraps around your hand. But I did notice that the textured grip is slightly less pronounced, less grippy.

The TMR joysticks are more sensitive and precise than before, while also using less power than the v1 — always a bonus. The new R4 and L4 bumpers are surprisingly easy to reach with my fingertips, and they don’t interfere with my normal grip, meaning accidental presses aren’t an issue.

I'm a big fan of these. My favorite feature about these sticks is the LED rings around them. It'll light up to where you move the stick, too. And it'll even mimic it on the other stick, which is pretty fun. I got to be honest, it's cool little things like this that I enjoy seeing on new devices that it just brings out joy.

TMR sticks make the cut — a feature which still usually sees the cost of a controller rocket — and they are a joy, giving you the smoothest sticks around with all of that fancy magnetic magic that goes into making them free from the bane of stick-drift.

We'll see how they feel at the end of this review considering I said that this is almost perfect. But we're going to cover everything in time. First, let's just talk about when you get one of these, what comes in the box. Well, first off, of course, it comes with a controller, which I would hope so, cuz otherwise that'd be false advertising. But it also comes with a dock.

Um but basically, the TLDR is this is a fantastic value for controller that gets you pretty much everything you need essentially for a PC gaming setup. Or if you want to connect it via Bluetooth to your phone, tablet, whatever. I do have some options. You know, I have like a regular Xbox controller. I also have this guy which I did a review on, the uh the DualSense Edge, I believe it's called.

So, we've lost XI input, but we have gained Bluetooth, which I think is a good compromise. Uh we've got the same really nice slick actually they sit in the body better now um these triggers. So you'll see in there that is very much flush with the body whereas this old one you can see a bit of a ridge there still. So slightly better paddles. Uh we've got the contacts there for the dock.

This thing is built pretty well. Very sturdy and I think it looks really clean. I really love the black and white tones here. Very nice looking controller. And in terms of comfort, the handles are pretty long. My pinky has plenty of room. With controllers that have shorter handles like this one, you see how my pinky is hanging over here? And this area digs into your palm. Not this guy.

This may feel like a bit of a gimmick for some, but I personally think it's a nice touch that makes it stand out from other controllers. Under the hood, we're getting TMR 6, basically an evolution of Hall effect sticks. They are still drift resistant just like Hall effect, so you don't need to worry about your stick degrading over time. But what sets them apart is the high stick resolution, which

But I really like this quite a bit. Um it does have a dongle, but if you plug the USB-C to A cable that's plugged in here right into your computer, you don't ever have to remove the dongle that's in here. You can straight up leave the dongle that's in there in there. That's just like the other one for the keyboard that I have. I think I put up a video of that.

So far, the sticks have actually held up really well. There's no drift, and they're just as accurate and responsive as when I first got the controller. Honestly, in terms of accuracy, I can't really tell the difference between the new TMR sticks and the old Hall effect ones. And that is very interesting considering when this device first came out, that's what everyone was talking about.

The PC version has limited connectivity and limited input modes, being Xinput and Dinput. I have stated on the PC version review that the dongle cannot work with smartphones or tablets. And as you can see here, it's detected as a mouse and it doesn't work at all. On PC, it works fine and it's detected as an ax input device. And I have found a secret mode that's not mentioned in the manuals.

It doesn't feel premium, but it's solid. If you have medium or small end, it feels good. But for bigger end, it might be less comfortable during long session. So, my first impressions are that this thing looks and feels pretty premium. The yellow colorway is definitely not for everyone, but honestly, it does pop. And the weight is balanced. It's not too heavy, and it's not too light. It just feels solid overall. Now, compared to the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, this one's for the Nintendo Switch 1. It's not the new one that just came out.
