## Frequently asked questions

### Who is the Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select for?

Anyone who wants to buy one drip coffee maker and keep it for a decade or more. It is the rank 1 product and the only S tier product on our coffee makers board, because the hand-built copper heating element, the 5-year warranty honoured with real repairs and the parts pipeline make it the safest long-term purchase in the category. If you want more brewing control, with adjustable temperature, bloom and flow rate, the Breville Precision Brewer Thermal offers that. If the cost is too much, the Ninja 12-Cup Programmable Coffee Brewer (CE251) is the budget pick.

### How long does the Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select last?

Units are routinely still running after 10 to 20 years. The design has been unchanged for decades because it does not need to change, the machine is hand-assembled in the Netherlands with a copper heating element, and the 5-year warranty is honoured with actual repairs rather than replacements. Our research found no recurring failure mode to report.

### Can the Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select be repaired?

Yes, and that is the main reason it ranks first. Replacement parts are sold for nearly every component, the design is fully repairable, and the parts pipeline has run for more than a decade. Inside the 5-year warranty the maker carries out real repairs. The Ratio Six (Series 2) is the closest rival on this board for the same repairable, low-electronics approach.

### Is the Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select outdated?

No. The design is decades old on purpose: it has not needed a revision, and the unchanged design is why parts remain available for old units. It lacks app features and brew profiles, and if you want those the Ratio Six (Series 2) is the modern alternative our board rates in A tier. For a machine you never have to think about, the Moccamaster's age is a strength, not a flaw.

### How do you clean and descale the Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select?

Rinse the carafe, lid and filter basket after each pot and wash them properly a few times a week. Descale every one to three months depending on water hardness by running a descaling solution through a full brew cycle, then two or three cycles of plain water. Using filtered water slows scale buildup on the copper heating element. Every part that touches coffee can be replaced if it wears out, so cleaning is about taste rather than survival.

## What this tier means

- S: Exceptional. Finishes top run after run; capped at 3 slots per category.

## How to read this

- Each category is researched in four independent runs, one per lens (expert consensus, value, reliability, community pulse). Every run ranks a board of candidates that deliberately includes products buyers cross-shop but should avoid. Placements score on a ranked ladder (LP), and tiers are derived from LP, so no tier is ever assigned by hand.
- LP is this product's points on its own category ladder. It is comparable within a category and not across categories.
- Link status reports what our pre-publication link check found when it fetched the cited URL. It says nothing about the quality of the review.
- A citation with no usable link is listed rather than dropped, and is excluded from the counted total above.
