## Verdict

Valve's support and parts ecosystem make it a superb long-term owner's device, but the 2022-era chip means performance headroom runs out before its build quality does.

## For

- Still sold, still supported, and still the default community recommendation
- Nothing in the category matches Valve's repairability and OS-update commitment
- A cheap, functional entry that still holds up
- Easily the best choice if it is powerful enough for your games
- Part of a line spanning several tiers

## Against

- Aging chip limits how long it stays pleasant to use
- The LCD screen was mediocre at best
- Performance is not enough for heavier games
- Clearly aged compared with the OLED model's screen, battery and Wi-Fi
- Less powerful than the faster Windows handhelds

## Flagged as one to avoid

This product entered 1 of 3 runs as one buyers cross-shop but should not buy, rather than as a pick. It is published here rather than dropped.

## What this tier means

- C: Fair. Acceptable in the right situation, outclassed at its price.

## How to read this

- Each category is researched in four independent runs, one per lens (expert consensus, value, reliability, community pulse). Every run ranks a board of candidates that deliberately includes products buyers cross-shop but should avoid. Placements score on a ranked ladder (LP), and tiers are derived from LP, so no tier is ever assigned by hand.
- LP is this product's points on its own category ladder. It is comparable within a category and not across categories.
- Link status reports what our pre-publication link check found when it fetched the cited URL. It says nothing about the quality of the review.
- A citation with no usable link is listed rather than dropped, and is excluded from the counted total above.
