## Verdict

A fast, high-capacity kit that tested well and reached DDR5-6800 in all three hands-on reviews. Its Intel-only profile, its 1.40V rating and the fact that games do not need 64GB keep it behind simpler 6000 MT/s kits for AMD gaming builds.

## About this product

This page covers the G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB F5-6400J3239G32GX2-TZ5RK, a 64GB DDR5 desktop memory kit made of two 32GB sticks with a black heat spreader and an RGB light bar. It boots at 4800 MT/s and reaches its rated 6400 MT/s at 32-39-39-102 and 1.40V once you enable its Intel XMP 3.0 profile in the BIOS.

G.Skill developed and tuned the Trident Z5 RGB on the Intel platform, and this kit carries an Intel XMP profile only, with no AMD EXPO profile. It suits Intel builds that run memory-hungry apps or heavy multitasking. PC Gamer points out that games do not need 64GB yet, so the extra capacity is for work rather than frame rates.

Tom's Hardware and TechPowerUp tested the white version of this kit, F5-6400J3239G32GX2-TZ5RW, and Guru3D also tested a white 64GB kit at the same 6400 MT/s, 32-39-39-102 and 1.40V profile. In G.Skill's part numbers the final letter only marks the color, so their results are the closest guide to this black kit.

## For

- Reached DDR5-6800 in all three hands-on reviews of the white version
- Beat faster DDR5-7200 kits by up to 3.4% in Tom's Hardware's capacity-hungry Adobe Premiere test
- Did well on Tom's Hardware's AMD Ryzen 7000 system despite having no EXPO profile
- Ran relatively cool in Guru3D's testing
- Limited lifetime warranty

## Against

- Needs 1.40V for its rated profile, where some similar kits need only 1.35V
- Intel XMP profile only, with no AMD EXPO profile
- Runs at only 4800 MT/s until you enable its profile in the BIOS
- At 44mm the sticks stand taller than low-profile kits such as G.Skill's own 33mm Flare X5
- PC Gamer notes that 64GB brings no higher frame rates in games yet

## Frequently asked questions

### Does the Trident Z5 RGB 64GB DDR5-6400 work on AMD Ryzen systems?

It can, but it was not built for them. The kit carries only an Intel XMP profile, which AMD boards may show as DOCP or A-XMP. Tom's Hardware got good results on a Ryzen 7 7700X, where 6400 MT/s sat at the edge of what the chip could run at a 1:1 ratio. TechPowerUp warns that DDR5-6400 and above at 1:1 is out of reach for many AM5 users.

### Do I need to change any BIOS settings?

Yes, one. Out of the box the kit boots at 4800 MT/s. Enable its XMP profile in the BIOS and it switches to 6400 MT/s at 32-39-39-102 and 1.40V. Tom's Hardware notes the profile sets the timings and voltage itself. G.Skill adds that reaching the rated speed depends on your motherboard and CPU.

### How tall are the modules, and will they clear my CPU cooler?

G.Skill lists the Trident Z5 RGB at 44mm (1.73in). Tom's Hardware measured 42mm and Guru3D 43mm, so plan around G.Skill's 44mm figure. If a large air cooler overhangs your memory slots, compare that with the memory clearance its maker lists.

### Is 64GB worth it for gaming?

Not for gaming alone. PC Gamer says games do not need 64GB yet and it will not raise frame rates. The capacity pays off in memory-hungry apps and heavy multitasking, and Tom's Hardware saw it beat faster DDR5-7200 kits in Adobe Premiere.

### Can it run faster than 6400 MT/s?

Probably a little. All three reviewers of the white version reached DDR5-6800. TechPowerUp got there at the stock profile voltage, while Tom's Hardware and Guru3D raised it from 1.40V to 1.45V. Guru3D stresses that overclocking results are never guaranteed and may vary.

## What this tier means

- B: Good. A solid choice with real caveats worth knowing.

## How to read this

- Each category is researched in four independent runs, one per lens (expert consensus, value, reliability, community pulse). Every run ranks a board of candidates that deliberately includes products buyers cross-shop but should avoid. Placements score on a ranked ladder (LP), and tiers are derived from LP, so no tier is ever assigned by hand.
- LP is this product's points on its own category ladder. It is comparable within a category and not across categories.
- Link status reports what our pre-publication link check found when it fetched the cited URL. It says nothing about the quality of the review.
- A citation with no usable link is listed rather than dropped, and is excluded from the counted total above.
