## Verdict

Fast, stable at its rated speed and simple to set up on an AMD system, with a little overclocking headroom left over.

## About this product

The Trident Z5 Neo RGB is a 32GB DDR5 desktop memory kit made of two 16GB sticks. It boots at 4800 MT/s and reaches its rated 6000 MT/s at CL30-38-38-96 and 1.35V once you turn on its memory profile in the BIOS.

G.Skill designed the Neo line for AMD systems, and this kit carries both an AMD EXPO and an Intel XMP 3.0 profile. It suits an AMD Ryzen build on the AM5 platform, where DDR5-6000 is the speed AMD itself calls the sweet spot for Ryzen 7000 processors. Tom's Hardware also found decent performance on Intel, although the kit is not tuned for it.

## For

- Ran its rated 6000 MT/s CL30 profile without stability problems in hands-on reviews
- Beat every other kit in Tom's Hardware's AMD test system
- Two reviewers pushed it to 6200 MT/s at 1.40V
- Carries both AMD EXPO and Intel XMP 3.0 profiles
- Limited lifetime warranty

## Against

- Runs at only 4800 MT/s until you enable its profile in the BIOS
- At 44mm the sticks stand taller than low-profile kits such as G.Skill's own 33mm Flare X5
- G.Skill warns against mixing it with a second kit, so plan the full capacity you need up front

## Frequently asked questions

### Does the G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB work on Intel systems?

Yes. Besides its AMD EXPO profile it carries an Intel XMP 3.0 profile, and Tom's Hardware found decent performance on its Intel test system. G.Skill tunes the Neo line for AMD, so on Intel you get a working kit rather than a tailored one.

### Do I need to change any BIOS settings?

Yes, one. Out of the box the kit runs at 4800 MT/s. Turn on its EXPO or XMP profile in the BIOS and save, and it switches to its rated 6000 MT/s at CL30. CDRInfo describes that single step as all the setup it needed.

### How tall are the modules, and will they clear my CPU cooler?

G.Skill lists the Trident Z5 Neo RGB at 44mm (1.73in). That is taller than low-profile kits such as G.Skill's own 33mm Flare X5. If a large air cooler overhangs your memory slots, compare 44mm with the memory clearance its maker lists.

### Can I add a second kit later to get 64GB?

G.Skill advises against it. Its spec page says memory kits are sold as matched sets and that mixing kits will result in stability issues or system failure. If you think you will need 64GB, buy it as one kit.

### Can it run faster than 6000 MT/s?

A little, with some luck. Tom's Hardware reached DDR5-6200 by raising the voltage from 1.35V to 1.4V, and CDRInfo reached 6200MHz CL32 at 1.40V. G.Skill notes that even the rated speed depends on the motherboard and CPU, so treat anything above it as a bonus.

## What this tier means

- S: Exceptional. Finishes top run after run; capped at 3 slots per category.

## How to read this

- Each category is researched in four independent runs, one per lens (expert consensus, value, reliability, community pulse). Every run ranks a board of candidates that deliberately includes products buyers cross-shop but should avoid. Placements score on a ranked ladder (LP), and tiers are derived from LP, so no tier is ever assigned by hand.
- LP is this product's points on its own category ladder. It is comparable within a category and not across categories.
- Link status reports what our pre-publication link check found when it fetched the cited URL. It says nothing about the quality of the review.
- A citation with no usable link is listed rather than dropped, and is excluded from the counted total above.
