## Verdict

Thirteen consecutive years as Wirecutter's top pick is the longest documented service record in the category, and nothing else here is even close on proven longevity.

## For

- Wirecutter has kept it as its top electric kettle through multiple rounds of testing since 2013
- Named best overall electric kettle by The Spruce Eats
- Consumer Reports lab-tested it among models that boiled quickly and kept water warm for an hour or more
- Variable temperature control with a hold function
- Build quality competes with kettles costing far more

## Against

- Long-term owners report the lid mechanism getting less crisp over the years
- Heating element fails frequently
- Short lifespan under two years

## Flagged as one to avoid

This product entered 1 of 12 runs as one buyers cross-shop but should not buy, rather than as a pick. It is published here rather than dropped.

## What this tier means

- S: Exceptional. Finishes top run after run; capped at 3 slots per category.

## How to read this

- Each category is researched in four independent runs, one per lens (expert consensus, value, reliability, community pulse). Every run ranks a board of candidates that deliberately includes products buyers cross-shop but should avoid. Placements score on a ranked ladder (LP), and tiers are derived from LP, so no tier is ever assigned by hand.
- LP is this product's points on its own category ladder. It is comparable within a category and not across categories.
- Link status reports what our pre-publication link check found when it fetched the cited URL. It says nothing about the quality of the review.
- A citation with no usable link is listed rather than dropped, and is excluded from the counted total above.
