## Verdict

The proven value benchmark, still a Wirecutter runner-up. Buy it when cheap filters and a long track record matter more than the newest sensor.

## For

- Longtime Wirecutter top pick with a long track record
- HEPA-grade filter consistently ranks among the best TechGearLab has tested
- Cheap, widely available replacement filters
- Remains the value benchmark the whole category is measured against
- Longest-running consensus pick in the category

## Against

- Superseded at the top of Wirecutter's guide by the newer Mighty2
- After new 2026 testing it sits as runner-up behind the newer Mighty2 rather than top pick

## Frequently asked questions

### Who is the Coway Airmega AP-1512HH Mighty for?

Anyone who wants a medium-room air purifier that will still be running in five years. It ranks first on our board because its ownership record is the strongest in the category: documented 5 to 7 year lifespans, cheap filters stocked everywhere, and no app or software that can age out. Buy something else only if your room is large, where the Coway Airmega ProX or the Levoit Core 600S on our board moves more air, or if you want a current-generation sensor and controls, where the Winix 5510 is the A tier pick.

### How long does the Coway Airmega AP-1512HH Mighty last?

Five to seven years is the documented norm, which is the best durability dataset of any air purifier on our board. The design has been in production long enough that the failure modes are known and rare. There is no firmware to update and no cloud service to shut down, so nothing outside the machine can end its life early.

### Is the Coway Mighty still worth it in 2026?

Yes. After new 2026 testing it sits as runner-up behind the newer Mighty2 rather than the outright top pick, after nearly a decade as Wirecutter's favourite. That is the only mark against it. The proven lifespan and the universally stocked filters are what put it first on our board, and the newer model has not had time to earn that record.

### What room size is the Coway Airmega AP-1512HH Mighty for?

It is a medium-room purifier, right for a bedroom, office or typical living room. It is not the pick for a large open-plan space. For big rooms our board points to the Coway Airmega ProX, which carries the same mechanical conservatism in a dual-filter flagship, or the Levoit Core 600S for big-room cleaning on a budget.

### How often does the Coway Airmega AP-1512HH Mighty need new filters?

Plan on a new HEPA filter about once a year and a carbon filter more often, with the exact interval set by how dirty your air is and how many hours it runs. Vacuum the washable pre-filter every few weeks so the HEPA behind it lasts the full term. Genuine filters are cheap and widely stocked, which is one of the reasons this unit ranks first. The Winix 5500-2 on our board has even cheaper filter economics if that is the deciding factor.

### Does the Coway Mighty help with dust?

Yes. A true HEPA filter captures fine dust, pollen and pet dander, and this unit is a standard HEPA design with a pre-filter that catches the larger particles first. It will not remove dust that has already settled on surfaces, only what is in the air. Run it on a medium speed for most of the day rather than at full speed for an hour.

## What this tier means

- S: Exceptional. Finishes top run after run; capped at 3 slots per category.

## How to read this

- Each category is researched in four independent runs, one per lens (expert consensus, value, reliability, community pulse). Every run ranks a board of candidates that deliberately includes products buyers cross-shop but should avoid. Placements score on a ranked ladder (LP), and tiers are derived from LP, so no tier is ever assigned by hand.
- LP is this product's points on its own category ladder. It is comparable within a category and not across categories.
- Link status reports what our pre-publication link check found when it fetched the cited URL. It says nothing about the quality of the review.
- A citation with no usable link is listed rather than dropped, and is excluded from the counted total above.
